The recommended dosage for astaxanthin depends on what it is being used for.
- • For age-related macular degeneration (AMD), it is recommended to take a specific combination product (Azyr, Sifi S.p.A.) containing four milligrams of astaxanthin, ten milligrams of lutein, one milligram of zeaxanthin, thirty milligrams of vitamin E, one hundred eighty milligrams of vitamin C, twenty-two and one-half milligrams of zinc, and one milligram of copper, taken daily for twelve months.
- • For dyspepsia, the recommended dosage is twenty milligrams of astaxanthin twice daily for four weeks.
- • For exercise performance, the recommended dosage is four milligrams of astaxanthin daily for four weeks.
- • For hyperlipidemia, it is recommended to either take six milligrams, twelve milligrams, or eighteen milligrams of astaxanthin daily for twelve weeks.
- • For male infertility, the recommended dosage is sixteen milligrams of astaxanthin daily for three.
- • For menopausal symptoms, it is recommended to take a specific product containing twenty-seven hundredths of one milligram of astaxanthin, twenty-three hundredths of one milligram of vitamin D3, one milligram of lycopene, and thirty-three milligrams of citrus bioflavonoids daily for eight weeks.
- • For rheumatoid arthritis (RA), it is recommended to take a specific product containing four milligrams of astaxanthin, forty micrograms of lutein, sixty-five international units of vitamin A, fifty international units of vitamin E, and four hundred sixty milligrams of safflower oil three times daily for eight.
- • For wrinkled skin, the recommended dosage is two to three milligrams of astaxanthin twice daily for six to eight weeks. One milliliter of topical astaxanthin (ninety-four thousandths of one percent) can also be applied to the face twice daily for eight weeks. *
Astaxanthing dosage – How much should I take?
According to WebMD, 6-8 mg taken every day is the recommended dosage for this supplement. Although people have been able to take up to 50 mg, we’re still learning about astaxanthin. Usually you are restricted by the amount that is included in each capsule.
So as far as maximum doses go, the research is still ongoing. Though on the plus side, it seems like most individuals can take large amounts of this supplement without problems.
